5 Indoor Plants that Make Perfect Gifts

5 Indoor Plants that Make Perfect Gifts

Posted by Ilena Yarbrough on

Most of us always bring something when invited to a dinner, celebration or other event hosted by family or friends. This gift is usually in the form of a nice bottle of wine, a delicious desert or a beautiful and fragrant bouquet of flowers. Our parents and grandparents have instilled these traditions in us, which express appreciation to a host or hostess, and show that we have good manners.

While it is important to show your host or hostess appreciation with a small gift, we highly recommend that you forgo the expensive flower arrangement and opt for potted plants.

Potted plants are a great value compared to cut and arranged flowers. While a $20 bouquet of cut flowers may last a couple days, maybe even a week, a beautiful potted orchid that costs $25 can last up to three months. There is a right and wrong way to gift flowers – the gift should not be an imposition. This means no gifting five-foot-high plants or plants that require elaborate care and feeding.

There are usually two outcomes to what will happen to the gifted plants, either the host will love the gift and lovingly take care of it, or they won’t be able to provide the plant with the necessary care and it ends up in the trash. While you can’t control the plants fate, ultimately it is the thought that counts.

Here are five of the most popular potted plants and flowers that make perfect gifts for dinner parties, celebrations or just because gifts.

Never Give a Bad Gift Again with These Indoor Plants

Bamboo

There are small versions of Bamboo trees known as Lucky Bamboo.

This plant is technically a member of the Lily family and it is really easy to care for. The plant grows in water, not soil, and it will thrive and grow as long as it has some sunlight and a constant supply of fresh water.

As the name implies the Lucky Bamboo is said to be a lucky plant and it is often used in Feng Shui practices. This plant would make a perfect gift for a housewarming party, a birthday or a celebration.

Lavender

Lavender is a very romantic flower and the scent of the plant is said to relieve stress and induce calm.

In fact, Lavender oil is a popular essential scent in aromatherapy practices. Lavender loves dry and sunny habitats so it is important to gift this plant to people who live in dry areas, such as Las Vegas. Lavender is a wonderful gift plant for just about anyone, and even if the plant dries out it can be used in cooking as a spice.

Orchids

Orchids are among the most popular gift plants due to their graceful appearance and minimal maintenance requirements.

Orchids are available in different sizes and colors and they can last for up to six weeks or longer.

With reasonable care and favorable surroundings Orchids can become a permanent fixture in a home and bloom for years to come.

Christmas Cactus

It’s common to attend multiple parties and events during the holiday season and instead of shelling out money for fresh cut flowers, gifting a host or hostess a beautiful Christmas Cactus is a wonderful alternative.

The Christmas Cactus is a beautiful holiday plant that blooms around Christmas time, and also sometimes around Easter if it is cared for properly. The plant needs bright indirect light, a good amount of watering and a humid environment.

Unlike most other cactus plants, the Christmas Cactus is a tropical plant that cannot stand completely dry conditions.

Succulents

Succulents are among the most easy to care for houseplants since they don’t require much water or attention.

These types of plants can be found in a wide range of shapes and colors so that you can pick and choose exactly what you want.

Or you can buy a couple different varieties of succulents and arrange them in a unique planter for a striking gift.

Give the Gift of (Plant) Life

Whether you are gifting a plant to a host at a dinner party or event, or giving a birthday gift to a close friend we guarantee that indoor plants make thoughtful, pretty and long-lasting gifts.

Use discretion when gifting plants, because some people may not like plants and you don’t want to burden them by giving them a plant that they need to take care of.

Gifting potted plants is more valuable than buying fresh cut flower arrangements, because potted plants are more likely to last longer and can even take up permanent residence in a home for many years to come.
