If You Were A Succulent…

If You Were A Succulent…

Did you know there are over 1000 types of succulent species to enjoy? Like people, they come in so many different shapes, sizes and a variety of colors.  Since there are so many, let’s run down 5 types that may just be the type of indoor plant you are looking for. Here they are specified by a brief summary of care. Which one is right for you?

rosette-150x150

Aeonium ‘Kiwi’ is the pink-tipped rosette of succulents. Although it requires high sun and low water, keep these “kiwis” out of humid conditions.

donkey-150x150

Donkey’s Tail (Sedum Morganianum) most popular and very easy to grow. Needs full sun though to stay compact in shape.

gollum-jade-150x150Crasulla Gollum’ ,unique among jade plants,  the “Gollum Jade’ has tubular green leaves that become tinted red along the tips when weather becomes cooler.  Seeking a super tough potted plant? Look no further.

haworthia-150x150

Haworthia Fasciata or “Hawthorne” will have you guessing – “Is it a sea anemone or a plant?” Use sandy, fast-draining soil that is slightly moist during the growing season. This plant is perfect for indoor pots.

bunny-150x150Kalanchoe Tomentosa or “bunny ears” boasts soft fuzzy gray leaves.
This popular succulent is easy to grow and quite resilient both in ground and in containers.
When choosing one or more of these lovely species, its good to follow some golden rules to succulents: good drainage, no over watering and access to light whether its filtered light or full on sun (depending on species).  For more information about succulents, register for our workshop in November.
